Mitterrand Desk
The set commissioned in 1983 by François Mitterrand for his presidential office is an iconic creation resulting from the collaboration between Pierre Paulin and the Mobilier National. Pierre Paulin draws on the blue and Tyrian pink of a Charles Le Brun tapestry located in the Salon Doré, colors that were highly daring for an official office. A radical gesture, the pink line that initially appears purely decorative is revealed to be the very structure through which this imposing desk gains its remarkable lightness.
